Mitchel’s transition from acting to singing is not a sudden shift in interest, in fact music has been a passion of his for most of his life and is certainly a huge part of his life now. His brother is a member of the pop/rock group Metro Station, along with co-star Miley Cyrus's brother, which Mitchel says is one of his favorite bands. "Metro Station is my favorite band. They have played with some great up and coming groups like Forever the Sickest Kids and CASH CASH," says Mitchel. His parents and his brother Mason have been a huge inspiration to his musical career. "My parents were doing musical theatre when they met and there was always singing and music in the house. When my brother Mason learned how to play the piano, I wanted to play too. When Mason started singing, I was amazed at his talent and really wanted to follow in his footsteps."

Mitchel's self-titled debut album was released in June this year and has seen tremendous success with one single, "Hey," already racking up more than 60,000 sales. Despite his soaring success, Mitchel remains a down-to-earth 17 year old. He stays in touch with his fans through Twitter and counts nearly 300,000 followers, which he likes to think of as a way for him to give something back to his fans. "They have done so much for me," he says.

As for what the future holds for Mitchel, he has high ambitions for where he wants to be in five years time. "I hope to have two more albums out. I hope to have toured the world and I would love to see the success of Hannah Montana lead me on to do other projects for Disney and perhaps a feature film!" This doesn't seem like a far fetched dream considering Disney has already led to Mitchel working alongside one of today's biggest sensations, Miley Cyrus. Mitchel has worked with Miley on Hannah Montana since the show premiered in 2006. Miley has been through so much in her career, and Mitchel tells us that she offers him great advice and is an extremely positive person. "She is just so encouraging! She never says anything negative." Mitchel would adopt Miley’s positive attitude when giving advice to aspiring actors/actresses who want to follow a similar path. "I say it all the time, Never, Never, Never give up! If you want something bad enough, it will happen. Sometimes just trying hard will lead you to so many other opportunities."
