taniagunadi.jpgWe know her as the tech-savvy Emma from Aaron Stone on Disney XD, but Tania Gunadi is a small town girl from Indonesia who followed her heart and lived out her big dreams of becoming a movie star! Since she’s been in America, she’s acted in TV shows including Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Boston Public, and Even Stevens (with the gorgeous Shia Lebeouf), as well as a minor role in the movie reprise of the legendary series, Star Trek. She’s only been in America for a very short time, but already this up and coming star is living the ‘American Dream’ with great success, ‘I will never forget the first time I arrived in America, it truly was like a dream.’ She says, ‘I love all the opportunities that are available’.

She had won the green card lottery and came to LA to be with her sister and brother leaving her mom and dad behind, ‘It was a mixture of feelings really. I was sad the day at the airport leaving my mom and dad, but at the same time I felt excitement about living in the U.S. and meeting Americans’. Another hard part was for her to leave all her friends who’d driven all the way from Badung to Jakarta to saytheir goodbyes. It was a scary but wonderful experience for the young Tania to travel all 20 hours alone, even with her very little grasp of the English language.

Being in the USA is certainly a lifestyle change for her! In Indonesia she got to hang out with her childhood friends by the pool eating their favorite food but her life in the US is a bit different, ‘There are so many cool things to do in the city, but I still like to hang out with my siblings and find a good place to eat Indonesian food!’ Her last visit back home was before her TV show had even aired, so she was able to blend right in and resume her old life with her friends.

What she loves the most about being in USA is hanging around the set with her co-stars and working on Aaron Stone, ‘I love being on set, working on scenes, fight choreography, and all the training prior to filming.’ She plays the ‘world’s best weapon specialist’ Emma on Aaron Stone and absolutely LOVES it, ‘I can geek out on the title alone!  It’s cool inventing new weapons and gadgets for Aaron to use to save the world from evil.’ But she confesses to not being tech-savvy at all in person saying she’s only getting the hang of twitter and facebook!

Now, even her friends in Indonesia get to see her on TV, ‘They think it’s so funny that they see me on TV speaking English and kicking some bad guys’ butts!’

Tania Gunadi also has her very own charity, the Fairy Tale Charity, which helps the sick and elderly. She came upon this idea when she was 12 and her mom took her to Jakarta by train. On the way she saw the poor villages of Indonesia and it broke the young girls heart to see so many people suffering, particularly an old, sick, lady who was watching the train pass by, captured her heart, ‘I said to myself that day“ when I’m a grown up I’m gonna come back to these villages and find a way to help.” With the help of her mom and cousin back in Indonesia, Tania’s charity helps families with medicine, shelter, providing clean water and other basic necessities.

Now that she’s famous,Tania gets a lot fan letters and emails, which she loves to reply to, ‘it’s kinda like having new friends from all over the world.’ When asked what her craziest fan experience had been she said, ‘My craziest fan experience was when I was walking out of Starbucks with my soy tea latte when out of nowhere two girls came running towards me asking for an autograph.  But they didn’t know that I had just opened the lid of my tea and they accidentally bumped into me.  Realizing I was about to spill the drink on these two little girls’ heads, I threw the drink to my right not knowing a guy was passing by at the same time.  The girls, their mom and I were standing there stunned, then we all apologized to the guy like crazy!  He was a really good sport about it.  We all had a good laugh!’

Don’t miss Tania and her butt-kicking alter ego, Emma, on Aaron Stone on Disney XD
