Sports Buzz: The Curse is Over

1918. Three years before women had the right to vote. Eleven years before the depression. Before the NFL and NBA were even a thought in anyone’s mind. 1918, the last time the Boston Red Sox won a World Series.

It seemed that the Curse was at it again this year. The Yankees crushed the Sox 19-8 at home, giving them a 3-0 ALCs lead.

Yet, Boston wasn’t ready to give up this time. They weren’t ready to pack their bags and give the Yankees another win. Somehow Boston came back from a 0-3 deficit to win four games back to back to defeat the Yankees. Something never done before—they came back to win four games.

Beating the Yankees propelled the Sox into the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. As if coming back from behind to make it into the World Series wasn’t enough, Boston swept St. Louis.

Derek Lowe pitched a shut out game 4. The game that will go down in history as the game that broke the curse. The game that the Red Sox finally won a World Series.

This was a win long time in the making. Sox fans took off school and work to get to St. Louis to see their beloved team take the last game. Sox fans always knew this day was coming. While others laughed at their loyalty to the team that never seemed to get it together when it most counted, they got the last laugh as Boston shut out the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Red Sox were full of heroes this post season, from Manny Ramirez to Pedro Martinez to Derek Lowe.

The Bambino’s curse is finally over. Except now, Boston has nothing to blame for any set backs next year.
