Hot Spots - Orlando: Titanic The Exhibition

Titanic: The Exhibition

If you liked Titanic the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet then you will love Titanic: The Exhibition.

Located along International Drive near the Mercado, Titanic: The Exhibition is a captivating presentation that will truly make you feel as though you were aboard the ill-fated RSS Titanic. The exhibit begins the moment you get your tickets. Each ticket has the name of a passenger and some information on that person and why they were aboard the Titanic. I was a second class passenger named Mr. Michel Navratil, 32, from Szered, Slovakia. I lived in Nice, France where I was a tailor. After accusing my wife of having an affair, I took our two sons on Titanic without her knowledge and we traveled under assumed names. My mom’s ticket had the name of third class passenger, Miss Amy Zillah Elsie Stanley, 24, from Dedington, England. She was a dressmaker from Oxford before becoming a domestic in Wallingford. She boarded the Titanic to come to New Haven, CT. to be a children’s maid.

After reading over your ticket you will get in line for the Titanic tour. While standing in line you can talk to others and find out which passengers they are. This really gives you an idea of how different the passengers were from one another and how life was at that time.

Before your tour begins you meet your tour guide. Our guide, Mark Richman, was playing the role of John Sage, a crew member for the Titanic. As John led us through each part of the exhibit he would tell us about each artifact, quiz everyone on Titanic facts, and answer any questions. Throughout the tour John treats you as though you are a first class passenger. Being a first class passenger in 1912 meant you were part of a select, elite group in society.

The Titanic Exhibit in Orlando is the only full-scale Titanic room recreations, including the Grand Staircase made famous by the Titanic movie. The Exhibit has more than 200 priceless artifacts, original movie memorabilia from “A Night to Remember,” “The Search for Titanic,” and the Oscar-winning film, “Titanic.”

At the end of your tour you get to view the Memorial Wall, which features the names of all the passengers and whether they lived or died. The person on my ticket, Mr. Michel Navratil, died but his two children survived and were later reunited with their mother. The person on my mom’s ticket, Miss Amy Zillah Elsie Stanley, survived and completed her journey to New York aboard the rescue ship, Carpathia. She later married and had two sons. Amy died in Providence, RI in 1955.

Overall, the Titanic Exhibition captures the soul of Titanic and its passengers and crew. Our tour guide did a marvelous job at bringing the story of Titanic back to life and made us feel like real Titanic passengers. Adults (13 and older) are $19.95 and children (6-12) are $12.95 while children 5 and under are FREE. This may seem a little expensive, but is worth every penny.
