Richard Petty Driving Experience |

Do you have the need for speed? Check out the Richard Petty Driving Experience for the ride of your life.
During my seven day, six night visit to Orlando I absolutely had to see what the Richard Petty Driving Experience was all about. I have been a fan of NASCAR since I was about 10 years old. Jeff Gordon is my favorite driver with Dale Earnhardt Jr. a close second.
We arrived at the Petty Driving Experience around 10 am after our relaxing hot air balloon ride. By 11 a.m my mom and I were able to take a ride in a replica Dale Earnhardt Jr. #8 race car. First, you must put on a fire retardant suit over your clothes. I suggest wearing light clothing because it can get very hot in the car. Next, you walk to the outside area where the race cars are parked. As I walked out in my fire suit I felt like a NASCAR driver, perhaps the coolest feeling ever! Once you reach the area you are given a helmet and just before you get into the car you are given a neck brace device. This device was made mandatory after Dale Earnhardt Sr. was tragically killed in an accident in 2001, such a device may have saved his life.
After you enter the car Dukes of Hazzard-style you meet your driver, my driver was named Tommy. You don’t talk much as it gets to be fairly noisy during the ride. Once you are strapped in and ready to go, your driver will nail the gas and you will fly out of the pit. Racing around the Walt Disney World racetrack at speeds of 150+ mph is a mind-blowing experience. As we reached the third lap I just kept telling myself to enjoy every second because who knows if I’ll ever get that opportunity again.
Overall, the Richard Petty Driving Experience is the ultimate must for any NASCAR fan. The Experience isn’t limited to Orlando, you can either ride-along or even drive the race car in many locations around the United States. However, I highly recommend the Orlando Richard Petty Driving Experience. The Walt Disney World track is a unique one and the staff is exceptionally friendly.
