Upcoming Music: Sabrina Sloan

With more than 30 million viewers a week, American Idol has become a show that has captivated the nation. Top 24 contestant, Sabrina Sloan, who has experienced what it’s like to be on one of the top shows, recently talked to Teen Scene about her experience.

Hailing from Orange County, California, Sabrina at a young age has always been a performer. After high school, she moved to Chicago and attended Northwestern. There she studied acting and singing. Soon after graduating, she made her way to New York and performed in the Broadway show, Hairspray.

With Sabrina’s strong vocals and performances each week helped earn her as a strong contestant on American Idol. When the final top 12 were being announced, America was shocked that Sabrina was not one of them. But that hasn’t stopped her. "I would do it again in heartbeat. I had to take a risk and put myself out there in front of millions."

Did it hurt that we didn’t get a glimpse into Sabrina’s back story? Most fans would agree. Sabrina says, “I can see how the back story helps. People latch on and get an early fan base. I had to show my personality in a minute and a half. It was a disadvantage.”

While on Idol, Sabrina describes her days as busy! “The girls were mellower, but the guys would always be singing and talking. We would do group songs the day of 3 in the morning. Sanjaya always had all of this energy though!”

Even though Sabrina is no longer on the show, she is still cheering on her favorites, Melinda Doolittle and Chris Richardson. Sabrina is keeping busy with working on her own album that can’t come out until three months after the finale. It’s in their contract. She is heading to New York for various auditions and is confident that this is the career that she is supposed to do. “It was a risk to put myself out there, but it was worth it. It’s encouraged me to make it.”
