Upcoming Music: Lucy Walsh

At a time when female reality TV stars are trying their hand at 'singing' and established pop princesses are either pregnant or mid-custody battle, it is refreshing to see a true female artist hit the music scene. California girl, Lucy Walsh, is a blond-haired, green-eyed breath of fresh air. We caught up with the 24-year-old Santa Barbara native to talk about her musical influences, who she'd most like to duet with and the pros of having a famous dad.

With a bright and bubbly 80's style to match her musical flair, Lucy names Cyndi Lauper as her ultimate influence, and you don't have to look hard to find the similarities. From the bright blonde hair to her quirky ensembles, Lucy is every inch the modern, Cyndi-inspired punk princess. In fact her up-tempo, sassy first single "So Uncool" wouldn't sound out-of-place if performed at a Lauper concert. But Lucy definitely has a unique flare that sets her apart from other young songstresses. "Those of us who have success as entertainers do so because there is nobody else like us. But what makes Lucy Walsh one of a kind is for my fans to put into words, not me."

Daughter of The Eagles' guitarist Joe Walsh, Lucy is no stranger to the spotlight. "Having a famous dad is interesting," says Lucy, "because people get so star struck, and to me...he's well, just my dad! He didn't pull any strings to get me where I am as a musician, and I thank him for that."

It was Lucy herself who set the musical wheels in motion, leaving her mother and step-dad's home in Malibu at 18 and moving to Hollywood. There she became pals with Ashlee Simpson, who gave Lucy her big break when she invited her to play keyboard and sing back-up on her tour. Since then Lucy claims she only hangs out with famous people. "They're just more interesting!" Agreed.
