How does a canceled TV show after only 11 episodes become a feature film? One word. Fans!  They wanted more and Joss Whedon, the creator, couldn't have agreed more. He took "Firefly" now known as "Serenity" and found a home at Universal. Having had two successful shows, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel", Universal believed in Joss and let him write and direct the feature. 

"Serenity" named after the ship is set five-hundred years in the future. For those who haven't seen the TV show, there is no need to worry. The movie doesn't pick up from where the TV show left off.  With the entire cast from "Firefly" back in "Serenity," this sci-fi western, revolves around a group of space outlaws who find out that a passenger on the ship is keeping a secret that the existing government will do anything to hide.

Teen Scene was on hand for the Serenity Fan Fest at Universal Studios. Fans, who call themselves “Brown-coats" came from as far as Australia to be apart of this experience. Jen Cummings, from Australia who has already seen the film 4 times, tells us, "This film has something everyone will like! And the best thing is that it's funny!" Fans were shown exclusive clips while the visual effects supervisor Loni Peristere discussed the process of creating the futuristic world. A Q&A was also held with two of the stars present, Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb), Summer Glau (River Tam). They graciously answered questions and soon after took pictures and signed autographs for their loyal fans.

"Serenity" opens this weekend, but the movie has had advanced screenings since April that have sold out! Fans are even going to buy tickets opening night in remembrance to those fans that have passed away.

So will there be a sequel to "Serenity?" If the box office delivers the numbers they're hoping for, there just might be. "Serenity" opens September 30th. Jump ship and see where it lands. You just may become a brown-coat too!
