Teen Scene got the opportunity to check in with actor Kevin Schmidt from Cheaper by the Dozen 1 & 2!
TS: What's the best part of acting?
Kevin: The people you meet along the way. Some interesting, some not so interesting. But everyone has a story that you can learn something from.
TS: Is there a Cheaper by the Dozen 3 in the works?
Kevin: Not that I know of, but they surprised me with a second so I imagine there's always a possibility.
TS: Do you still keep in touch with all your "brothers & sisters" from Cheaper by the Dozen?
Kevin: There are a couple I've managed to get close to and talk to frequently. But many of the cast were implants from other states so it's hard to stay in contact.
TS:What's something funny that happened while filming Cheaper by the Dozen?
Kevin: A midnight doughnut run in the middle of nowhere, with a certain cast member is probably my favorite.
TS:Who's career do you want to model your's after?
Kevin: Acting wise, Sean Penn. But my goal is to get behind the lens and direct. Probably my favorite director is Ridley Scott.
TS:Any new projects lined up?
Kevin: Resurrection Mary, a horror flick. My first top of the show lead role, so super excited. Also I picked up writing and have my first screenplay out to some very reputable players. Couldn't be more excited!
TS:What do you like to do for fun outside of acting?
Kevin: My friends are endless hours of entertainment. Also found a new love to be physical, workout, sports, etc.
TS:What's your secret to so much weight loss in the last couple of years?
Kevin: Hmm 40 pounds in one year. Diet change (all organic) and a lot of time in the gym. Also I've dedicated myself 100% to staying fit. Persistency is the key!
TS:How has it affected your roles that you go after?
Kevin: Well I can audition for the leading man now, it's quite strange. It's still acting, just a different avenue I suppose. The movie I'm about to shoot will be my first experience with it, I'm confident I can do well.
TS:Do you have advice to young actors who want to pursue acting?
Kevin: It's not easy, and takes a lot of work. But if you truly believe you can do it, attack your roles 100%. Be prepared, stay calm, and have confidence in your abilities.
TS:Do you have advice for teens in general?
Kevin: There's a lot of things that can take you off the path you want to take. The key is to notice them before you immerse yourself completely.
TS:What do you hope to accomplish this year?
Kevin: Get my screenplay produced and filmed. Write my next flick, book another substantial project.
We at Teen Scene wish Kevin the best of luck in 2007!!
