Movie Box - The Greatest Game Ever Played Premiere

Teen Scene was on hand for the premiere of the new Disney movie, "The Greatest Game Ever Played."  It's based on the true story of an amateur 20-year-old golfer, Frances Ouimet, who defeated reigning champion golfer Harry Vardon in the 1913 U.S. Open.

Shia LaBeouf (Holes), who plays Frances, reveals many messages in this film.  While people may think the film is only about golf, Shia explains, "There's social change, racism, hardship, heroism, family aspect and many more subjects that touch this film."  Peyton List who plays Shia's love interest speaks highly of Shia, "It's like nothing you've ever seen him in. I think he pulled it off beautifully."

Friends and co-stars from various movies and TV shows that Shia has been in came out to support the film on its premiere night in Los Angeles as well.  Trisha Simmons who appears as a reoccurring character on Desperate Housewives joyfully responded, "Shia was one of my students!"  Khelo Thomas who starred in Holes with Shia said, "It's hard to keep a straight face with him!"  Shia's co-star in the hit TV show "Even Stevens,” Christy Carlson Romano, told us some funny stories about on-set pranks. "I strapped a fart machine to his chair and he tee-peed my dressing room from head to toe with toilet paper!"

Shia himself recalls a funny memory while making this film, "Me and Max Kasch jumped on a freight train in the middle of shooting one time. We were in Montreal and rode it to Dorval. We had to take a $200 dollar cab ride home for no reason."  Shia, his friends, and co-stars all revealed to us his light-hearted sense of humor and the ever present role it plays in the filming process.

Wardrobe always plays a significant role in films as well.  During the filming of this movie, actors had to endure the heat while wearing clothes styled from the early 1900's.  Michael Weaver (John McDermott) stated, "It was great to wear the get-up until it got hot. It's something about getting in an outfit like that, that puts you in that space."

Another important part of filmmaking is the music. The composer of "The Greatest Game Ever Played," Brian Tyler, revealed to us how it's done.  "They show me the film. It doesn't have any music on it. I go in and Bill Paxton, the director, will give me a hint at the feeling he wants in the film. Bill said its golf, but let's make it sound like a war battle between these legendary golfers. Then I write the music by hand and conduct an orchestra to play the music to picture."  Clearly, only a true musician could make this process sound like such an easy task.

The producers who brought you, "The Rookie," "Miracle" and "Remember the Titans," bring yet another great American sports movie to the big screen. The Game begins on September 30th. Take a swing at it!
