With young Hollywood now turning to the style of old Hollywood, it is no wonder that Scarlett Johansson is style's current it-girl. Johansson's classic beauty, timeless approach to fashion and powerful yet graceful presence make her the poster child for the return of old Hollywood glamour.
Johansson, a posh, elegant and fiercely sexy woman, may be one of the youngest actresses in Hollywood, but her acting skills put her amongst many of the most seasoned and mature actresses in showbiz today. And, her sizzling hot fashion sense reflects that maturity level.
Maturity in fashion is achieved through understanding of what works and what doesn’t. Ms. Johansson understands this best as she dresses for herself and not the trends. She is not seen with the latest it-bags or the hottest shoes that everyone from Lohan to Simpson wears. She wears what she likes and what suits her much-envied curvy figure. Her seductive roles seem to play into her style as she dresses not only to display, but flaunt and boast her sexy appearance. This makes her all the more endearing and interesting to watch.
Whether she is suited up in men’s attire for a movie premiere or seen shopping around Los Angeles in a simple jean and tank ensemble, Scarlett Johansson draws eyes and attention because she is different. To the premiere of one of her recent films, Match Point, Ms. Johansson was picture-perfect in an empire-waist nude-colored dress, which was very fashion-forward but not a trend which everyone had tried already. Only now are designers experimenting with the hue of nude, while Johansson has “been-there, done-that.” The blond bombshell also goes back to the classics now and then, by accessorizing fairly simple clothing with a timeless pearl necklace or a traditional red lip. Just as she plays her film roles with ease and keeps us guessing with what character she will enact next, Ms. Johansson keeps us guessing and in awe on the red carpet as well.
She plays the fashion scene with ease, and grabs the audience’s attention just as she does in any of her movie scenes. There is a certain magnetism towards Ms. Johansson and that magnetism makes her fashion latest it-gal.
But, we think she will always continue to paint the town of Hollywood scarlet, err, red.
