Nicole Richie is a hot style icon to look out for these days. Sometimes it's hard to believe that this is the same cheap and trashy Nicole Richie, complete with skunk-like hair extensions and ill-fitting clothes. Just by seeing how her style has improved, it seems the Simple Life star has suddenly started taking a simpler approach to her own life.
Richie has made some significant changes in her personal life within the past few months. The adopted daughter of yesteryear rock star, Lionel Richie, is now engaged to long-time boyfriend, DJ AM, and has lost a tremendous amount of weight by (hopefully) eating right, excercising and giving up drugs. When a person makes positive changes within their life, their personal style and fashion usually improves as well, and this is precisely what happened with Richie.
"She used to look really gross, but now she has such a soft elegant look to her. Her beauty is really showing now that she dresses and carries herself better," says Sumeeta Raj, a University of Maryland student fashion lover. "I used to think her friend Paris was better dressed, but now Nicole takes the cake."
Indeed, the Simple Life star is dressing better. And, while dressing better does not even compare to her other wonderful improvements, such as giving up drugs, it is nevertheless a change worth complimenting.
"I like her clothes. I like the boots over the jeans and loose shirts. It looks good," says Christen Norris, 20.
Loose fitting clothes, simple colors and funky accessories are just a few elements of Richie's new and improved style. Her red-carpet dresses are also a big hit. Her form fitting, black halter dress paired with a dark, bold red lipstick, which she wore at a welcome home party, wowed fashion critics everywhere. Her simple and sleek emerald green dress at a FOX event made everyone green with envy. Her burgundy neck tie dress at an Oscar viewing party was the epitome of elegance.
Also enhancing Richie's improved look is her new hairstyle, a short and cute blonde bob. It is creating waves for her status as an up and coming fashion icon, whether she styles it pin-straight or in loose ringlets. Long gone are the days of Richie's chunky, edgy highlights and ratty hair extensions. In are the days of a soft and elegant mane.
Nicole Richie's druggy and dangerious lifestyle showed in her personal style, which was almost always trashy and unkempt. Today her look is soft and controlled, a reflection of how she has seemingly taken control of her life. It is indeed the simple life for her now.
