What to Wear? - Ballerina Chic

Ballerina's everywhere seem to be wearing their practice wardrobes out of the dance studio, showing off a unique and graceful style that may soon catch on in mainstream fashion.

Although this ballerina-style of dressing cannot yet be called a trend, many pieces created just for dancers can be seen on celebrities, models and young fashion lovers alike.

Think ballet flats, delicate chiffon or tulle skirts paired with tights, wrap-cardigans, sleek, pulled-back hair and minimal make-up.

The idea is to get a style that is classically elegant, much like the graceful performances by dancers. Their routines, even when involving complicated jumps or fast spins, always manage to look relaxed, easy and graceful. The style or look should reflect these graceful movements.

Ballet flats are one piece from a ballerina's wardrobe that have hit mainstream fashion and continue to sell well. Whether the flats are decorated or in simple, neutral colors, they allow the person to move about freely, just as a dancer would.

The look also involves playing with different silouhettes; that is, pairing a loose skirt with a skin-tight top or a loose and flowy top along with body hugging pants.

Whichever element from this "ballerina chic" look you may decide to try, one thing is certain: it is a look that will be a refreshing to see, amongst the trendy bohemian and retro styles most are trying nowadays.
