Let's face it. Everyone who's anyone has been waiting with bated breath for season three of The Hills, desperately wondering whether Lauren and Heidi will finally make up, Whitney will get that job at Teen Vogue and Audrina will finally figure out what she wants to do with her life. But come on, what we really care about is their hair! How can we achieve Lauren's bouncy curls? Is it possible to get our hair as pin-straight as Heidi's? Those layers of Whitney's … that deep brunet of Audrina's … we're gaga for it all. Here are some helpful tips and tricks to get you looking just as fabulous as the ladies of The Hills!
Lauren Conrad
This leading lady definitely has gorgeously long and flowing locks-colored to perfection in a fabulous golden hue and layered in all the right places. Want to pull off this look? You've gotta start with the right color. It's not too blonde, not too obviously highlighted and not too brassy. If you're coloring your hair at home-which we only recommend if you're already blonde, otherwise please head to the salon so you don't end up orange!-we love Garnier 100% Color in Light Beige Blonde ($7.29 at drugstore.com). Next up? The cut. Ask your stylist for long, sweeping layers that start at your cheekbone and extend gradually down to your collarbone. Part hair on the side to create sideswept bangs. Before blowing hair dry with a round brush and casually flipping out the ends, give your tresses added volume with a volumizing spray such as Frédéric Fekkai Instant Volume Spray ($19.50 at bathandbodyworks.com). And voila! Lauren's style, made all your own.
Heidi Montag
Working at a high stress PR firm, arguing with Lauren over Spencer and, well, being with Spencer take up a lot of this girl's time. But luckily she's never got a hair out of place! We're totally digging the straight 'do she sported for MTV's latest photo shoot of The Hills cast, and now it's time for you to learn how to get the look yourself. Heidi's locks are bright, bright blonde-almost platinum-so it's best if you get the color done at a salon. As for the cut, it's fairly simple. Ask your stylist to cut your hair all in one length, creating very subtle layers at the front for just a hint of body. Razored ends will give locks that extra bit of oomph, especially great for those of us not blessed with thick tresses! An off-center part also adds volume. For that perfect shine, shampoo with a shine-inducing formula like Phyto Phytobrush Special Smoothing Shampoo for Blow-Drying - Anti-Frizz ($22 at sephora.com). Maybe it's time for you to go out and get one of those fancy PR jobs like Heidi has!
Whitney Port
The Teen Vogue intern is totally model-pretty while racking clothes at the office and helping out at photo shoots-so much so that she actually got to model last season! Whitney's gorgeous tresses are simple for you to achieve at home. Her honey blonde locks are heavily layered, with chunky ones starting at the chin and continuing all the way to the top of the décolleté. If your locks need a bit of help in the length department, why not try extensions? We absolutely love hairdo, the fabulous line of real and synthetic hair extensions from Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves. Check out the 23" HairDo Synthetic Wavy by Jessica Simpson Hair Extensions ($85 at hairextensions.com)-they clip right into your hair and last around three months! Finish the look off with an off-center part and you're good to go. Those fashion magazines will be eating out of the palm of your hand!
Audrina Patridge
The lone brunette of the bunch. Not Audrina's only claim to fame, though she certainly knows how to work those tresses to her advantage! Dying your hair a deep hue should be fairly simple at home-we like L'Oreal Feria Haircolor in French Roast ($9.99 at drugstore.com). It's shimmery, it's sultry, and the formula will leave your hair feeling silky smooth. Don't forget to take care of your color with the right treatment-John Frieda's Brilliant Brunette line (available at drugstores) will do the trick. This star of The Hills likes lots of layers, too (sense a trend here?)-ask your stylist to cut them in starting just below the chin and subtly weaving down to the décolleté. An off-center part is key for extra volume here, but the final finishing touch? It's curls! You'll want a curling iron with a small barrel to really get those ringlets-try one like Revlon Hair Appliances Perfect Heat ¾" Styling Iron ($14.49 at drugstore.com). Finish locks off with a smoothing lotion to cut down on frizz, such as mop C-Straight Smoothing Shine Lotion ($15 at bathandbodyworks.com). Now you're ready to hit the town in style!
