Summer is the season to show off one's natural beauty. From sun streaked hair to sun-kissed skin, achieving that summer golden glow is easier than many think.
Tanning salons and/or sun bathing can be relaxing and can produce that golden bronze tint that many of us desire, however, this same golden look can be achieved by safer means.
Tanning salons are sources of a type of ultraviolet radiation that penetrates into the second layer of skin known as the dermis. Signs of sun damage are seen where this light penetrates into the deeper skin layers. Science research also shows a direct link between skin cancers and tanning salon use. Obviously, the same cancer risk and sun damage results from natural sun bathing as well.
There are effective alternatives to get that sun-kissed glow without tanning. Sunless tanning is a way one has total control over the shade and color of the tan. Victoria's Secret has a new summer product: "Beyond Bronze Lotion" ($22.00, Victoria Secret Stores). This bronzing lotion not only lets you control and create your own radiant glow but it comes in various Victoria's Secret signature scents.
Benefit's "Glamazon" ($26.00; www.sephora.com) is a new liquid bronzing tint that offers a natural soft, rosy and glowing tan. Pair it with MAC's "Golden Bronze Shimmer Powder" ($16.00, MAC stores) for a sun-kissed luster.
However, if you do choose to suntan, remember to stay safe by applying sunscreen while since your skin will be overexposed to sunrays. And no matter what you do, celebrate the natural glow of your beauty this Summer!
