Leftos, or LEssons From The Opposite Sex, started as a guy just wanting some real dating advice. Now, it’s turned into a full-fledged internet community devoted to providing insightful commentary on dating, love and sex. Founded by Michigan State graduate Zach Lipson, Leftos provides philosophies, stories, and advice to users who may be a little bit confused when it comes to the dating scene.
“The idea for Leftos came from the constant conversations I would engage in with friends and my observations of those same conversations taking place among girls. Guys are constantly talking about girls, sex, relationships, and everything in between,” says Lipson. Most of the time, advice from guys about girls isn’t nearly as useful (or credible) as advice from girls about, well, girls. Lipson, along with a team of three others, wanted a safe and inviting internet community as to provide useful tips and help for those in desperate need of some good advice.
The goal of the site is to have more meaningful communication between the sexes. “Whether it's communicating on a first date, with a sexual partner, or with your boyfriend or girlfriend, good communication is a necessity if you want the relationship to succeed,” Lipson notes.
Starting a website about sex and love always has its risks. “We’ve been fortunate in that we haven't had too many crazy or inappropriate posts. There are some post's that are a bit more ‘risqué’ in the sex topics,” Lipson says, but he credits the relatively tame posts to his very mature and knowledgeable users. “I'm really looking forward to watching as the community grows and the level of participation increases. I feel that Leftos is a service that can really help people and as more people join and contribute, the service becomes that much more valuable. It's a great feeling to watch a user (in need of advice) post a question and receive quality answers and the help they needed,” he says.
Lipson has his own ideas on dating as well, including what he thinks is the biggest dating misconception among men and women. “The one that comes to my mind is the mentality that the whole dating process should be your typical "dinner and a movie" night. I think this type of rigid standard/expectation only makes the dating process more uncomfortable and stressful.”
So if you’re sick of your same sex friends’ advice on dating, go to leftos.com for some really useful advice from everything from first dates to divorces.
