quietdrive.jpgMinneapolis-based Quietdrive has been up and running for the past few years.  Even though they have been on numerous tours and have had one of their songs played nationally on the radio, the band found time to record and release their newest album "Deliverance" to many eager fans.

Quietdrive has been together for almost five years.  Matt Kirby, the band's guitar player,  said that originally, they were two separate bands with the same lead singer, Kevin Trunkenmiller. "Kevin and I were doing an acoustic pop rock deal, and he was also the lead singer in a more progressive harder rock band," Kirby said.  "We decided to form together as one like Captain Planet.  Kevin was Fire, Justin was Earth, I was Wind, Brandon was Water, and Droo was Heart.  All we lacked was Mud.  We're still searching for it."

After releasing their first album, "When All That's Left is You," their cover version of the famous 80's song "Time After Time" started gaining momentum.  It was beginning to be played on radio stations nationwide, and Kirby says that hearing it on the radio was like the scene in the movie "That Thing You Do" when they "start running down the street, turning on every stereo they can find to that station, kissing mannequins, screaming, etc....For me it's like that every time.  I dreamed of that when I was a kid.   It never gets old."
After touring the U.S. a number of times, Quietdrive was finally able to record a new album titled "Deliverance". "We had total control over the outcome of [the record]," Kirby said, "Kevin made his debut as a producer and did a fantastic job.  It was a little nerve racking for him having all that responsibility on his shoulder, but we knew he would deliver, and he did."

Besides the fact that "Deliverance" was released on a different record label than "When All That's Left is You," there were also some other differences between the new and the old.  According to Kirby, Deliverance's themes are a lot deeper than their previous work and included themes that go beyond heartbreak, loss and personal struggle. "There was a spiritual side, a fun-loving side, an angry side," said Kirby "Lots of themes that hadn't been touched before."

For "Deliverance," the band is doing some major touring.  Right after Christmas, they are going to the Middle East to play for the troops, and then they are going to the UK and Japan.  Kirby says that seeing the world and playing music is an amazing experience.  After taking a break when they come home from overseas, Quietdrive is planning to tour the four corners of the US.

But even through all of the success, Quiedrive is able to connect with their fans. "[We connect]in person and one to one, as much as we can.   That's why this band is very much known for stupefying amounts of touring," Kirby said. "If someone is willing to invest personal time to listen or see us, we embrace that by being accessible.  We also do a lot of chat-casts, and then of course, reach people online on a daily basis." But what's the one thing that Matt Kirby says the world needs to know about Quietdrive? "We are not Scientologists."
