The unique and captivating Zooey Deschanel has been a very different star to cross the industry’s path. Her fame has been rising, particularly over the past few years, and she has become one of the most sought after actresses. As a young girl, Deschanel always wanted make her mark as an actress, but her heart has always revolved around musical aspirations. After landing the role of Jovie in the family comedy Elf, where she starred alongside Hollywood’s funny man, Will Ferrell, Deschanel revealed her fantastic singing ability to not only Hollywood, but to all. Her classic and distinctly old fashioned voice led to a partnership with fellow musician M. Ward, leading to the formation of She & Him.
The journey of She & Him is still on the rise and can be likened to a newborn into the music industry. Their debut album, Volume 1 revitalizes the indie-style. Tunes such as “Why do you let me stay here” and “Sweet darling”, are only hints of what is to come. They’re authentic, and in comparison with some others in their field, they are nothing like watching grass grow or paint dry. Deschanel and Ward’s raw style creates an image and sound that will burn into us listeners and keep us wanting more. If you haven’t heard their music do yourself a favour, sit back and listen; play the tunes so loud that you feel their stories of separation, love and complication. Also, for all of you She & Him groupies, keep an eye out for Volume 2 as it is scheduled to be released from mid-March. Recently engaged to Benjamin Gibbard from Death Cab for cutie, the two have performed together, and captivated audiences with their melodic sounds and great onstage chemistry. Deschanel’s superb talent does not only consist of her endless musical abilities, but also, her onscreen performances display her phenomenal acting style. A style that is not at all common, and if you’ve seen Deschanel’s work you will understand that fact from seeing her distinctive and sometimes comedic take on characters . Starring in movies such as Almost Famous, and as of lately Yes Man and 500 Days of Summer, her approach to roles is always refreshingly new, realistic and amusing at the most ideal times. Deschanel’s latest appearance was alongside her sister Emily Deschanel, in the hit crime series Bones; where Emily plays the central character Temperance Brennan. Their onscreen appearance together in the episode The Goop on the Girl was wonderfully witty. The back and forth banter between the two was purely entertaining and displayed their close bond. The sister’s acting alongside one another had been demanded greatly by fans for a long time, and when they finally paired up, they did not disappoint. Ever since they were children they would create their own “at home productions” where they’re audience consisted of their mom and dad. The Show-biz industry was something that the two had been accustomed to from an early age. Their father, Caleb Deschanel is an Academy Award-nominated cinematographer and their mother is Mary Jo Deschanel , an actress who starred in the series Twin Peaks. Certainly coming from an exceptionally talented background could help explain their numerous abilities, and striking performances. There are no official plans known as of yet, but be sure to keep an eye out for an upcoming production from Deschanel. Having written a screenplay with fellow performer and comedian, Jackson Nash, titled Circus Girl which revolves around a witch, evil flying red balloons and a giant diamond. A story never before seen and one that sounds unforgettable. There are also reports that Deschanel is chosen to star as the nerdy central character. It already sounds like an intriguing piece; one of many to come from this passionate performer. I’m not sure if there is any kind of plan, but Zooey Deschanel is gradually taking over Hollywood and gaining more popularity every day. With her not at all boring take on life and always invigorating performances, onscreen and through her music; she certainly does have a bright and positively eventful future ahead.
