If you're so sick and tired of being sick and tired, then your sentiments are echoed in the lyrical goodness of The White Tie Affair. This Chicago-based band has been taking the music scene by storm since 2007, when they were signed by Slightly Dangerous/Epic Records. Lead singer, Chris Wallace, sums up the band in three words: titanium pop extravaganza. “Our music is like chocolate covered pancakes on a Tuesday morning. You just can't go wrong." Yum!
The White Tie Affair consists of five members, including Chris on vocals, Sean P. on guitar, Tim McLaughlin on drums, and Ryan McClain on keyboard. The band members grew up in Chicago together, and experimented with different genres of music before finding their current niche. They cite influences ranging from Stevie Wonder to AFI and The Police. Before signing with Slightly Dangerous/Epic Records in 2007, The White Tie Affair was already a hometown favorite, playing shows all over Chicago. In April of 2008, The White Tie Affair released their debut album “Walk This Way” featuring the singles “Candle (Sick and Tired)” and “Allow Me To Introduce Myself...Mr. Right”. The band spent most of 2008 playing shows, including the annual “Pajama Party” at the Playboy Mansion, and the True Colors tour with pop-icon Cyndi Lauper. Last year, The White Tie Affair toured with Lady Gaga, as her opening act. Chris tells Teen Scene that the group had an amazing time on the tour with Lady Gaga. “She is a true pop star in every sense. Plus, I love her sense of fashion." Of all the stops on the tour, it's no surprise that the members of The White Tie Affair found their hometown of Chicago to be their favorite. “They've all been awesome. If I had to pick, it would be Chicago. We get to play two unbelievable shows in one night in our hometown." Teen Scene was at one of the Chicago shows and got the opportunity to hang out with The White Tie Affair on their tour bus before the show. Go here to read about it. Although the Lady Gaga tour wasn't the first that the band has been a part of, Chris admitted that it was shaping up to be the band's favorite. “As far as past tours, it would have to be the Metro Station tour. Their fans are crazy fun, and Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus hung out for a few shows. We were so star struck." But Miley Cyrus isn't the only teen sensation that Chris mentioned to Teen Scene. When asked if he he could be a fly on someone's wall who would he choose, he answered, “Taylor Swift, so I could steal one of her songs before she records it.” The White Tie Affair also toured last summer on the Vans Warped Tour taking them across the nation. Teen Scene once again caught up with Chris backstage at Warped where he told us what it's like to be on such a coveted tour. "Warped Tour is like summer camp with a bunch of band dudes, and I mean lots of dudes. Everybody just has fun. You end up hanging with people that you never thought you'd hang with." The guys had to work a little harder on Warped to stand out from the dozens of other bands. They held their own with their addictive, feel good pop songs, but also attracted some attention with a "wacky inflatable tube man." The idea for the gimmick came from an episode of Chris's favorite TV show, Family Guy. The wacky inflatable tube man was a great addition to an already exciting show. The White Tie Affair are currently working on their next album.
