Written by Chris Heinz

robinthicke.jpgIt can easily be argued whether 33 year old Robin Thicke is known more for his singing career or the contribution he has made to other artists’ careers through his producing, songwriting, and guest appearances on their songs. The R&B and soul singer has four studio albums of his own: A Beautiful World, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, Something Else, and most recently, Sex Therapy. Most notable as a songwriter and producer, he has won Grammy Awards for Usher’s Confession album, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III album, and Jenifer Hudson’s self titled album. What can’t be argued though is his success as a musician, his constant ability to evolve in the constantly changing music industry, and his nonstop work ethic.

This has proven to be a steady career for Thicke dating back to 1994. This is when he started writing songs for 3T to be featured in the movie Brotherhood. In 1996, following his work on Brotherhood, he penned “Sexual Capacity” for Color Me Badd’s Now & Forever album. Following that, he wrote multiple songs for New Kid on the Block’s Jordan Knights self-titled solo album, alongside renowned hit-makers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Following his work with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, while gaining a name for himself, he wrote songs for the likes of Usher, Brandy, Mya, Christina Aguilera, and Marc Anthony. In 2002, Thicke released his debut single, “When I Get You Alone.” It performed very well on the international charts and was featured on the soundtrack for Agent Cody Banks. This success led to the release of his first studio album, A Beautiful World.

Seven years later, Thicke is releasing his fourth studio album titled Sex Therapy. The demand for his music is so large that this is his third album in three consecutive years. It features guest appearances by heavy hitters Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. This release followed a co-headling tour with Jennifer Hudson, an appearance on the hit ABC show The Bachelor, a song in the movie Precious, a guest appearance on Leighton Meester’s debut single “Somebody to Love”, and a performance on ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special. Thicke can be seen on the upcoming The Freedom Tour opening for Alicia Keys starting February 26th in Ottawa, Canada. If that isn’t enough excitement for Thicke, he is expecting his first child in May 2010. At the age of 33, Thicke shows no sign of slowing down.
