The Fame Ball tour hit Chicago not once but twice on Tuesday. The early show began with opening act Cinema Bizarre which can be summed up in one word: bizarre. Though the group’s music is decent, the overwhelming aspect of the group is their look which is slightly disturbing. Lady Gaga is known for her bizarre antics, but Cinema Bizarre certainly takes the cake for the ‘most bizarre’ title. Next to rock the stage was Chester French, which is a band that consists of two members, Maxwell Drummey and D.A. Wallach. Their music is mostly indie pop/rock clearly influenced by the 1960’s and 70’s, but then they also have a catchy techno/dance element.
The last opening act before the headliner, Lady Gaga, was hometown band, The White Tie Affair. The White Tie Affair is made up of Sean, Tim, Ryan, and leader singer, Chris. Before the show Teen Scene’s Senior Managing Editor, Meagan Anderson, and I caught up with the guys on their tour bus. This was the first time the band had been back to Chicago since the beginning of the year so the bus was filled with family and friends. After lots of jokes, talk of Twitter, and even some cupcakes, it was time for the band to prepare for the show. They took the stage by storm with their fun pop/rock/electronic songs including, “The Letdown,” “The Enemy,” and their current hit single, “Candle (Sick and Tired).” The crowd couldn’t help but jump to the beats, especially when Chris stripped off his shirt and went into the audience. One of the highlights from their set was when the band shut off the lights and played while glowing in the dark. If you don't catch these guys on the Fame Ball Tour you can catch them this Summer on the Vans Warped Tour. After the exciting set from TWTA, it was time for Lady Gaga, or so we thought. Almost an hour of standing elbow to elbow with hundreds of people, the new so-called “princess of pop” finally came out. Her entrance was nothing short of dramatic with a countdown video and elaborate props. Since she only has one album to date she performed a majority of the songs. For the most part her show was upbeat and the crowd was dancing, but there was a period in the middle where she performed a few songs, including the slow-version of her single, “Poker Face,” and the crowd got a little restless. She ended the show with everyone going crazy to her hit singles “Just Dance” and the regular fast version of "Poker Face.” Overall, the Fame Ball Tour has its good, bad, and even bizarre moments but it undoubtedly is a show that you do not want to miss.
