nextmusic.jpgYou probably remember the R&B group, Next, for their hit single "Too Close," which was a top ten hit in 1998 and ranks as #24 "greatest song of all time." Next, which began performing as "Straight4ward" were known for their flowy and rhythmic beats, and they set the stage for many others introduced to the R&B world during the 90’s.

Terry Brown, Raphael Brown, and R.L Huggar scored their first studio album in 1997 titled, "Rated Next" which included top hits "Butta Love" and "Too Close." The next album, released in 2000, was named "Welcome II Nextasy" and featured such hits as "My Everything" and "Beauty Queen," and also featured future rap star, 50 Cent. In December 2002, "The Next Episode" was released as their third studio album, but this time the guys weren't as successful and were eventually dropped by their record label, J Records. In 2005, Next briefly signed with G-Unit/Interscope Records but they were soon dropped from Interscope as well for unknown reasons.

Throughout their career the group has acquired many nominations including: Favorite Soul & R&B Duo or Group, Favorite New Soul & R&B New Artists and Best R&B & Soul Album for "Welcome II Nextasy" by the American Music Awards and won Best R&B and Soul Single by a Band, Duo or Group by the Soul Train Awards. Next's songs included in the top 100 of the charts include: "Butta Love", "Too Close", "Wifey", and "Beauty Queen."

Next is currently working towards their next album "Next, Lies, & Videotapes" coming out later this year, although Raphael Brown is no longer a member of Next. R.L Huggar, Terry Brown and new member, Deponce, will be on the new album. Huggar is also recording a second solo album while Raphael is working on his own solo career as well.

You can expect to see a lot more from this cutting edge R&B group, but what remains to be seen is whether they can match their 90's success.
