At the age of 20, Stephen Lunsford has clocked up his fair share of movie and television credits. Though his name and face may not be instantly recognizable, and fansites are in shorter supply than those of, say, Zac Efron, he is equally as talented as many other well-known actors.
Most recently, Lunsford became an orphan is Desperate Housewives, where his mother Edie Brit met a nasty end. Though studying Creative Writing and Journalism, Lunsford admits he won't be writing for Teen Scene any time soon. "I fully intend on pursuing my acting career," he told us. "In my eyes, there is no other career that I can even fathom doing." Space exploration still hasn't been completely ruled out though. Good news for star lovers of both varieties.
In his latest flick, Maneater, Lunsford's growing up. "My character in the film is like the red herring of the storyline," he reveals. "You're not sure if he's a good guy or not. So to transition from Bratz to Maneater was not exactly easy." Whether or not this fits with his 'tweenage' following is something Lunsford is worried about. "I would constantly be like, 'The CW is going to kill me.' They haven't yet, but I won't hold my breath." Our bet is that, if Daniel Radcliffe can still be Harry Potter while baring all on stage, Lunsford will be fine.
For something a little less adult, Lunsford says his preparation for Kamen Rider was to hit the gym and bulk up. "Before shooting I found out from the series creator Steve Wang, that the character shouldn't be built like Mr. Olympia but like Bruce Lee," he says. "I lost about 20 lbs over the shoot from the training and stunts."
Given the chance to live it all again, Lunsford remains firm in the view he'd do it all the same. Feeling lucky having his mom to make sure he was pursuing something he really wanted to do, his advice to aspiring actors is to make sure they know what they're letting themselves in for. "It's a full time job" he warns. "It's not just sitting and waiting, it's this whole mess of maintenance that you have to keep up." Hollywood hair, teeth and bodies, apparently, must come at a price. Lunsford knows it's the career path for him though. "I love everything I've worked on" he beams. Filming for Desperate Housewives he says he has worked with a great cast and crew. Still, Lunsford has big ambitions. The list [of who I'd like to work with] is quite long. Ranging from James Cameron to Steve Spielberg." He goes on to say, "though right now I'm really enjoy the works of Alfonso Cuaron and Sam Mendes. Their direction is brilliant and something I would love to experience some day."
