Vanessa Hudgens made a name for herself when she starred in the 2006 low budget, made-for-tv-movie on the Disney Channel-High School Musical. Little did anyone know that High School Musical would be such a huge hit, turning 18 year old Vanessa Hudgens into a megastar teen idol. Now 20 years old, Vanessa Hudgens has transformed before our eyes from high school science nerd to glamorous young woman. She’s traded in her Wildcats apparel and pigtails for stylish outfits and beach inspired wavy locks.
Whether on the big screen, the cover of a magazine or just hanging out, Vanessa can be seen flaunting her long, deep brown sultry hair. Many young Hollywood starlets fall into the habit of drastically changing their hair color and styles with each new role they take on. Throughout many different roles, Vanessa has always remained true to her Philippine/Latino roots with her long dark hair. Vanessa’s basic wavy hair style is so quick and easy, anyone can look like a movie star! Whether you have straight or curly hair, here’s what you’ll need to get Vanessa’s look:
- Shampoo and Conditioner for Normal Hair
- Blow Dry Lotion (or heat activated leave-in conditioner)
- Blow Dryer/Diffuser
- 2 or 3 inch Wooden Blow Dry Brush
- 3 inch Curling Iron
- 2 Large Bobby Pins or flat Hair Clips
- Medium Hold Hair Spray
Now, let’s get started. Begin by shampooing and conditioning your hair with normal shampoo (use color treated if your hair has been colored). This can be done the night before so the hair’s natural oils aid in holding those beachy waves. If your hair is super fine it could be a bit more difficult to achieve this hairstyle when your hair is too clean so leave it unwashed for 1-2 days. If your hair is wet you can either blow dry your entire head until hair is completely dry or diffuse it until it is about half dry and then let the rest air dry. Be sure to apply a blow dry lotion to wet or dry hair before exposing your hair to extreme heat. Next, separate your hair into 2-3 inch pieces to wrap around the curling iron. Try to leave generous space between curls so you don’t accidently create a Shirley Temple look! Once hair is wrapped around the curling iron, a spritz or two of medium hold hair spray (or even mousse) can be sprayed directly onto the curling iron to give an extra hold. Hold hair in place for up to 20 seconds, or until hair is hot, and slowly unwind the curl. Another spritz of hair spray can be applied to hair to maintain the hold until the entire head is curled. Remember to begin with hair at the back of your head working your way to the top and front. Once you have achieved the desired amount of curls, gently separate each curl to create a wave-like effect. For the ultimate beachy look, create a center part using your thumb and forefinger to gather hair, gently pull hair back just over the ear and secure with a bobby pin. Do the same to the other side and spray with hair spray. Let hair set for a few minutes…remove the pins…give your head a little shake from side to side…and you’re set to go!
Who knows, maybe you’ll meet your very own Zac Effron with this new look!
