drewbarrymore.jpgDrew Barrymore is one of those actresses who has really grown up on camera. The media has captured it all; from her break out role in ET to her troubled teen years and rehab stint at age 14 and then focusing on her many famous relationships and movie roles as she entered adulthood and finally found herself. For a young woman who has had so many changes in her life it’s obvious that her style would alter with every new chapter in her life, specifically her hairstyles. Drew has looked amazing throughout the years with whatever style and fad she was into at the time. We’ve seen her experiment with short dirty blonde cuts to long blonde boho hair and then sexy long brown locks. She’s really found herself over the years and has become such a glamour icon for young girls without trying so hard. However, the most recent two tone hairstyle she sported shortly after starring in and producing the movie, Whip It., has got people talking. Do you love it or hate it? While we’re not quite sure why Drew decided to dye her hair to look as if the bottom inch was dipped into black paint, we do know that it suits her for where she’s at in her life right now. She just finished starring in and producing the movie, Whip It, with her new BFF Ellen Page. Her new two tone hair seems as if it’d be a great look for the character Drew plays in the movie who is a tough, punk kinda girl. And, if life imitates art then Drew is doing just that! Love it or hate it, it’s so Drew!

Here are some tips and tricks to get Drew’s new look. This is what you’ll need:
  • Semi Permanent or Permanent Color
  • 1 inch hair color brush or soft bristle paint brush
  • Small plastic bowl
  • Handful of large bobby pins
  • A friend to lend a helping hand

When your hair is unwashed and dry is time to begin. The first step is to use the large bobby pins to mark off where color will be applied to evenly. You can measure with a ruler exactly one inch from the tip or you can eyeball the amount you want colored and clip a bobby pin in as a marker where you will begin painting on the color (sort of like a paint inside the lines idea), continue clipping bobby pins in a straight line, leaving NO hair unclipped, until you reach the other side. When your guidelines are in place it’s time to paint! Once you’ve mixed everything as directed on the hair color box you can pour the dye into your small plastic bowl. And, just like a professional hair colorist, your friend will dip the soft bristle hair color brush or paint brush into the bowl of dye and paint on your hair beginning at the bobby pins and working their way down to the tip. Be sure to soak hair completely through so every strand you want colored will stand out. Follow the waiting time suggested on the hair color box and rinse out according to directions. One you rinse out the dye your new two tones hair is ready to be styled however you like.

Nothing left to do but go out and rock it like Drew Barrymore!
