Let’s face it, many people do not know what foot fetishism is and what it stands for. Foot fetishism is defined as a pronounced sexual interest in feet or footwear.
Did you know that foot fetishism can be traced back 1000 years to 10th centuryChina? It is here that the practice of foot binding was established for wealthy women to develop the perfect "lotus foot." Less fortunate Chinese women were not forced to practice foot binding because their feet needed to be well formed to work thefields.Bound feet were considered attractive to men because they believed that it made women more dependent on escorts to help them walk. Also, during this time period, men believed that a woman with bound feet would remain faithful. In 1911, the practice of foot binding was abolished after the fall of the Qing Dynasty. Today, foot fetishists are those who are attracted to the shape and size of the foot and toes. For instance, Morton’s toe is when a person’s second longer toe is longer than the other toes. The syndrome was named after Dudley Joy Morton and the French believe it is a sign of intelligence (http://www.whonamedit.com/synd.cfm/2701.html). An interesting fact to note is that our very own Statue of Liberty has Morton’stoe syndrome (she is a gift from the French). However, others do not share the same feeling for the Morton’s toe. In fact, we can remember the funny scene in “Shallow Hal” (2001), when Mauricio Wilson (Jason Alexander) breaks up with his girlfriend because of her Morton’s toe. In addition, some foot fetishists are attracted to others based on pedicures and footwear. “I would not date a women who does not have a pedicure and wear high heels,” said Mike O’Neal. “That’s just how I am, I don’t know why but that is what attracts me.” Christy Loren adds, “My friend's dad wouldn't date anyone without a pedicure.” It is obvious that foot fetishism does exist, but it is harder to identify nowadays. Some people are too embarrassed to admit that they have a foot fetish. Don’t be shy; there are other foot fetishists out there! On facebook, there are numerous groups that foot fetishists can join such as “Foot Fetish Party” and “Feet-A Rare But Enjoyable Pursuit.” If you get a kick out of admiring feet, then search on facebook and myspace for many foot fetishist groups!
