flats.jpgAnother fashion fad from the 1980's has re-emerged: flats. Celebrities are being spotted everywhere wearing flats for daily activities to a night out on the town. Hollywood fashion usually tends to influence everyone else to follow. Find out which flats are the favorites of the stars.

1. Ballet flats: “I love ballet flats. I have tons and usually shop for them at Macys, Nordstrom, J. Crew and Anthropologie,” says Elena Golder. In addition, Jessica Westbridge claims, “I love the unique ones and those I can match with any outfit. My favorite place to buy flats is at Target because they have the biggest variety of choices.” Prices start at $7.49-$34.99.

Origins of the ballet flat go back to at least the 16th century. Also, in medieval times, ballet flats became popular fashion wear for both men and women.

Today, Lanvin ballet flats are becoming hugely popular in Hollywood. Lanvin flats can be purchased at mainly high end-retailers such as Barney’s New York. However, shoppers can purchase a cheaper version of the flat at Free People for $68 (www.freepeople.com).

2. Rounded toe flats: “I love the ones with different designs on them from flowers to polka dots,” says Christy Joyner. With rounded toe flats, they are built for comfort around the toes.

3. Mary Jane’s: “Cute and comfortable to wear” are two qualities that have made these flats popular over the past decade. The shoes were named after a character created by Richard Outcault for his comic strip, “Buster Brown” (1902). Buster Brown’s sister was Mary Jane. The style of shoe (strap across the middle top) that the two wore became known as the “Mary Jane.”

If you also love Mary Jane shoes, rock out to Fergie’s debut album “The Dutchess” (2006), which has a number dedicated to the shoes.

4. Pointy-toe flats: Filled with sophistication, pointy shoes have been around since the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in China. During this time period, both men and women wore pointy-toe flats made of satin and cotton fabrics.

5. Mules: “I love these backless shoes and shop for them at American Eagle, TJ Maxx or Ross,” exclaims Natalie Young. Mules can range from sporty to elegant and can be paired with any outfit.

Flats are the hottest trend to walk this planet this year! Made for any occasion, you will love wearing them. All flats are mostly built for comfort and can easily be worn with anything such as leggings, dresses, and jeans. So whether you’re going to the grocery store or a date night, slip these shoes on! You will be stylish and comfortable for any event!
